Cat Battles is a physics brawler in the Gang Beasts mould: you are not reducing a health bar, you are moving another cat past the edge of a platform. Everything below follows from that one fact.

The whole game in one frame: two cats, one platform, lava below. Official game art.
Controls
| Input | Key | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Punch | Left click | Knockback. The cheapest way to move someone toward the edge. |
| Grab | Right click | Locks onto another cat. This is the setup for everything else. |
| Kick | F | Breaks contact and adds a shove. Useful when you are the one being held. |
| Lift | Shift | Picks up whoever you have grabbed. Held cats are much easier to walk to the edge. |
| Ability | Q | Fires whatever you equipped. See the eight abilities. |
On mobile the same five actions appear as on-screen buttons. Long-press to grab rather than tapping, which is the mistake most touch players make in their first round.
The loop that wins rounds
Damage does not accumulate toward a knockout, so a round is won by displacement. Three habits carry most players further than any ability:
-
Fight perpendicular to the edge, not toward it. Pushing someone along the rim keeps them alive; pushing them across it ends the round.
-
Grab first, punch second. Punches are forgiving to recover from. A grab plus a lift puts the other cat where you want them.
-
Never stand closer to the edge than your opponent. Half of all eliminations are somebody else’s momentum, not their own aim.
Game modes
| Mode | Who is an enemy | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | Everyone | Pure free-for-all. The mode to learn in, because no one is covering for you. |
| 2 Teams | The other team | Half the lobby is safe to stand next to. Grabs become about isolating one opponent. |
| 4 Teams | Three other teams | Messier. Third parties decide most rounds, so patience pays better than aggression. |
The arena and the physics do not change between modes — only the number of cats you are allowed to hit. If you are learning the controls, stay in Classic until grab and lift feel automatic.
Where free Coins fit in
You start with no abilities, and an ability is the single biggest change you can make to a round. Five codes are live right now worth 1,150 Coins, which is enough to buy your first one without grinding. The codes page has all five with their exact payouts.
A first-session checklist
-
Play one Classic round doing nothing but grabbing. Do not punch. You will learn the grab range faster than in ten normal rounds.
-
Redeem the codes and buy one ability.
-
Play one round with the ability and note whether it saved you from a fall. If not, swap it.
-
Move to 2 Teams once grab plus lift feels natural.

Questions
What are the controls on PC?
Left click punches, right click grabs, F kicks, Shift lifts and Q fires your ability.
How do you actually win?
Be the last cat on the platform. There is no health bar to empty — you move people off the edge.
What is the difference between the modes?
Only who counts as an enemy. Classic is everyone, 2 Teams halves the lobby, 4 Teams quarters it.
Does grabbing do damage?
It is a control tool, not a damage tool. Its value is that a held cat can be lifted and walked to the edge.
